Preston’s Community Eye Hospital achieves a significant milestone as Dr. Moemen Elnawawy, a dedicated surgeon, completes his 1,000th cataract eye procedure in just seven months since joining the Community Health and Eye Care (CHEC) team in July.
With an impressive 21-year career in eye care, Dr. Moemen has been instrumental in providing essential cataract surgery to community patients across various sites in Preston, Blackpool, and Accrington.
The CHEC Preston facility, operational since 2021 and in collaboration with NHS England, aims to enhance residents’ choices and accessibility to eye care services.
Reflecting on this achievement, Dr. Moemen expressed enthusiasm, stating, “It’s been a brilliant first seven months with CHEC, and to have conducted more than 1,000 surgeries in such a short space of time shows the demand there is for a service like ours.”
Addressing the importance of swift access to cataract surgeries, Dr. Moemen emphasized his commitment to meeting the target of treating cataract patients within four weeks, prioritizing the reduction of waiting times for improved quality of life.
Mr. Sweetman, honored as Dr. Moemen’s 1,000th patient, praised the surgeon’s calming approach, stating, “He built my confidence further by explaining how the procedure would work, and when the operation was over, I was delighted to have been comfortable and pain-free throughout the experience.”
Dr. Moemen’s dedication to providing excellent patient care has contributed significantly to the hospital’s success, marking a milestone in his distinguished career.
Headquartered in Preston, CHEC operates more than 20 hospitals throughout the UK.
