Over 2000 individuals, including 19 recipients of eye surgeries, have benefitted from the annual Eye Can See program organized by Seplat Energy Plc at the palace of the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare 11.
The Managing Director of Seplat Energy Plc, Roger Thompson Brown, represented by Base Manager Emmanuel Otokhine, highlighted the significance of the Eye Can See program. This initiative, conducted in collaboration with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation exploration and production (NNPC E,&P), goes beyond treating eye ailments or performing surgeries. It addresses underlying health issues like diabetes and high blood pressure that can lead to eye defects.
Since its inception in 2012, the program has conducted over 90,000 surgeries, provided more than 45,000 prescription glasses, and screened numerous individuals, demonstrating Seplat’s commitment to corporate social responsibility.
The program, considered Seplat’s flagship CSR initiative, aims to provide quality eye healthcare to communities where the company operates. It involves screening patients, providing prescription eyeglasses, performing cataract surgeries, and dispensing medications.
With millions of naira and dollars invested, Seplat ensures that those unable to afford medical care receive treatment, leading to transformative changes in their lives.
The collaboration between Seplat and NNPC E&P Limited underscores the companies’ commitment to community welfare and sustainable development. Faith Otitiunor, representing the Managing Director of NNPC E&P Limited, expressed gratitude to the Oba of Benin for his unwavering support.
Beneficiaries of the Eye Can See program shared their experiences, expressing profound appreciation for the free surgeries and medical assistance provided by Seplat. Individuals like Stanley Akhere, Sandra Orosanye, and Jonathan Egbo testified to the life-changing impact of the program, emphasizing the invaluable support it offers to those in need.
