During a free medical treatment organized jointly by Seplat West Limited and NNPC E&P Limited for host communities in Edo and Delta states, Ayodele Ola Tunde, Managing Director of Seplat West Limited, revealed that more than 90,000 individuals have benefited from the medical outreach program over the span of 12 years.
Speaking at the event represented by Emmanuel Otokhine, Base Manager of Western Asset, Seplat Energy, Tunde highlighted the scope of the initiative, stating, “Our medical outreach started in 2012, and we have performed over 90,000 surgeries, provided more than 45,000 eye glasses, and dispensed drugs to beneficiaries.”
Tunde emphasized that the outreach is not limited to eye care alone but extends to addressing underlying health issues like diabetes and hypertension, which can contribute to eye defects.
The program, a collaborative effort between Seplat and its partners, aims to address the health needs of the communities within their operational areas, with a focus on providing care to those who cannot afford medical treatment.
Nicolas Foucart, Managing Director of NNPC E&P Limited, highlighted the significance of the program as part of the partners’ Corporate Social Responsibility, stating, “The program is designed to provide free eye care, visual aid, and surgical treatment for cataracts, glaucoma, and other eye diseases.”
Foucart, represented by Mrs. Faith Otitinor, NEPL Community Liaison Officer, expressed gratitude for the continuous support of the communities, acknowledging their role in the company’s growth and progress in oil and gas exploration pursuits.
Beneficiaries of the program, such as 57-year-old Stanley Akhere, expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to receive free medical care, emphasizing the impact of the initiative on their lives. Another beneficiary, Sandra Orosanye, shared her experience of being unable to afford medical treatment previously, underscoring the importance of such initiatives in providing accessible healthcare to the community.
