Amy Liston, a 46-year-old former construction manager, is embarking on a solo world travel adventure after undergoing a vision correction procedure, freeing her from over 30 years of dependence on glasses.
Previously employed by Network Rail, Amy opted for voluntary redundancy, seizing the opportunity to plan an extensive journey. However, her enthusiasm for activities like paddleboarding and camping was hindered by her poor eyesight, prompting her to seek a solution before embarking on her six-month excursion.
“I have worn glasses since I was 13 and did not get on with contact lenses. My sight just got worse over the years so I was dependent on glasses all day long,” Amy explained. “But with my hobbies, glasses constantly get in the way or completely fall off and I lose them in the water when paddleboarding. I have lost countless pairs of glasses and expensive prescription sunglasses.”
Facing discomfort with contact lenses due to her astigmatism and hay fever, Amy sought relief through lens replacement surgery at Optegra Eye Hospital Birmingham. The procedure promised to eliminate her reliance on glasses altogether.
“My eyes healed really quickly and as soon as I took the eye shields off I could see so well. It is going to make all the difference to my travels – things like paddleboarding are so much more enjoyable,” Amy expressed. “But even daily activities are easier like being able to read food packaging and the conditioner bottle in the shower. The only downside for me is I can see some wrinkles now!”
Elated with the results, Amy is thrilled to invest in the newfound freedom from glasses, eager to embark on her travel itinerary without the burden of visual aids. “I am so glad I have invested in this now and I felt the sooner the better really. No more need to spend all that money on spectacles and prescription sunglasses, but mainly I can enjoy my vision and my travels with no hassle!”
Amy’s journey will commence in Miami, followed by visits to Costa Rica, Thailand, Bali, and Fiji.
