A 29-year-old Iraqi patient underwent an urgent and rare surgery to remove a naso-maxillary tumor, as described by the doctor who operated on him. Ahmad Hussain had been experiencing nasal stuffiness and left eye protrusion, despite previous corrective surgeries for left naso-maxillary Ewing’s sarcoma.
Dr. Harnarayan Singh, Director and Head of Neurosurgery at SHALBY Sanar International Hospitals in Gurugram, provided a second opinion after Hussain’s persistent symptoms. Following thorough evaluations, it was determined that he required surgery to address a residual tumor causing his symptoms.
Dr. Singh emphasized the urgency of the situation and briefed Hussain on the necessity of surgery for safe tumor removal. During the operation, doctors discovered the tumor extended into both nasal cavities, prompting a near-total excision via endo-nasal endoscopy under general anesthesia.
Highlighting the complexity of medical treatments for conditions like Ewing’s sarcoma, Dr. Singh stressed the importance of finding a skilled and empathetic surgeon. In Hussain’s case, skull base surgery using an endoscopic nasal approach was employed to address his condition.
Following the procedure, Hussain’s postoperative recovery proceeded smoothly, with stable vitals monitored closely until his discharge in a stable condition. Dr. Singh emphasized the minimally invasive nature of the trans-nasal skull base surgery, which facilitated a swift recovery with optimal outcomes.
The successful surgery underscores the significance of a multidisciplinary approach in achieving favorable patient outcomes within a relatively short hospital stay. Dr. Singh concluded by highlighting the collaborative effort that contributed to Hussain’s successful treatment.
