Country music singer Margo Price has revealed the details of her recent sinus surgery and cosmetic enhancements in a heartfelt Substack post, sharing her personal journey with her fans. On July 10, the 41-year-old artist opened up about the significant physical and emotional challenges she faced leading up to these procedures.
In her post titled “As Plain as the Nose on My Face,” Price reflected on the years of suffering caused by severe sinus issues, which had been exacerbated by multiple broken noses and relentless online bullying. “I was bullied online constantly, and every time I did any kind of TV appearance or made a politically charged statement, the trolls would come for me,” Price recounted. “It was deeply painful. Since my career has taken off, I have often wanted to just disappear from existence.”
Price explained that while she managed to cope with the relentless criticism about her appearance, the physical discomfort from her blocked sinuses had become nearly unbearable. She described experiencing severe migraines, blurry vision, impaired hearing, and labored breathing that interfered with both her professional and personal life. The singer described a moment of extreme discomfort where she feared her eardrum might rupture due to the intense pressure caused by sinus blockages and bone spurs.
In a blend of vulnerability and humor, Price revealed that during her surgical procedures, she decided to address her long-standing concerns about her nose. “Growing up, I fell prey to all the subliminal messages from the media that a girl’s worth is tied to her beauty,” she wrote. “It’s very painful to feel like you’re not good enough because of your appearance, especially when the problem is so central and visible.”
Price worked with renowned surgeons Dr. Shawn Nasseri and Dr. Jason Champagne to perform both the sinus and cosmetic surgeries. Now, three months post-operation, she shared that she is breathing and singing “better than ever,” though she continues to navigate the complexities of self-image and self-acceptance. “I was so terrified that my vocals would sound different, but it wasn’t the case at all,” she admitted. “As far as my self-image and self-acceptance, that’s another story. I am trying to learn how to love my new self, but it’s not been an easy road.”
Price’s candid reflection also touches on broader societal issues, commenting on the unrealistic standards imposed on women and the criticism they face for their choices. “Women are designed to fail,” she said. “You’ll be shamed for being ugly, then you’ll be called fake and shamed for having work done. We can’t win.”
Amidst these struggles, Price found solace in her music, which she credits as a vital source of strength and emotional processing. “Music has always been the thing that has saved me and helped me process my feelings,” she wrote. “I don’t know where I’d be today without it.”
Through her open and honest account, Margo Price offers her fans a glimpse into the personal battles she has faced and continues to overcome, while highlighting the role of creativity and support in her healing process.
