New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced on Thursday that she has been diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, a small, nearly invisible spot on her nose. Basal cell carcinoma, a prevalent form of skin cancer, is often linked to sun exposure, according to the American Cancer Society.
The Democratic governor will undergo a procedure to remove the carcinoma on Friday but assured she will return to work the same day with a bandage on her nose. Hochul noted that the diagnosis is common in her family and emphasized the importance of regular medical checkups. “I encourage everyone to make sure that they do get regular checkups and follow through,” Hochul stated.
