Irish actor Barry Keoghan, best known for his role in The Banshees of Inisherin, has come a long way from his early struggles to international recognition. However, with fame has come increased scrutiny, particularly over his changing appearance in 2024. The actor’s seemingly different facial features have sparked rumors of cosmetic enhancements, a situation similar to what other young stars like Millie Bobby Brown have faced, often being subject to plastic surgery speculation.

Experts Weigh In on Possible Enhancements
Dr. Fuat Yuksel, a board-certified plastic surgeon with Longevita, weighed in on the rumors, suggesting Keoghan may have received dermal fillers and potentially had cosmetic work done around his eyes. “Looking at Barry’s younger photos, there seem to be hints of fine lines around the outer corners of his eyes,” Dr. Yuksel noted. “But now, everything appears smoother, which suggests Botox for crow’s feet.” He also pointed out possible changes to Keoghan’s forehead, indicating the likelihood of anti-wrinkle injections.
Beyond surgical possibilities, Dr. Gizem Seymenoglu, a registered dentist and medical aesthetician with Longevita, proposed that Keoghan’s altered appearance could be the result of non-surgical treatments. “His skin has a thicker quality compared to before, which could be a result of treatments like mesotherapy, microneedling, or Profhilo,” she explained. Dr. Seymenoglu also mentioned Keoghan’s dental appearance, speculating that he may have had cosmetic work on his teeth, such as whitening or veneers.
Shifting Away from a “Boyish” Persona
Long before the plastic surgery rumors surfaced, Barry Keoghan was more often judged by the types of roles he played. In 2018, Keoghan expressed concern about being typecast as a “weirdo” due to his penchant for playing offbeat characters. His career has featured a variety of quirky roles, including a scavenger in The Green Knight and his portrayal of The Joker in The Batman.
However, his 2023 role in Saltburn, where he starred opposite Jacob Elordi, gave Keoghan the chance to break free from his boyish image. This role marked a turning point in how the actor was perceived, allowing him to embrace more mature, complex characters.
In 2024 , the BAFTA winner opened up about how it felt to shed his “childish” image. “It’s nice not being seen as the weird-looking guy, the freaky little man-child,” Keoghan stated. “It feels good to be viewed differently.”
