Actor Mallika Sherawat is gaining attention for her recent performance in Vicky Aur Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, despite the film facing substantial criticism. She addressed the toxic nature of beauty culture and her approach to staying fit at the age of 47.
Sherawat expressed her disdain for societal pressures surrounding beauty, stating, “I have never done anything. I find this beauty culture very toxic. Self-worth cannot be tied to how youthful your face looks. We will all age; there are natural ways of rejuvenation. I don’t smoke, drink, and have a balanced life.”
Having made her Bollywood debut in the early 2000s, Mallika remains confident in her enduring presence in an industry where the downfall of stars is often celebrated. “It is a very strange thing about our industry that people enjoy the downfall of an icon. It is perhaps natural for them to feel that, but with me, they will never be able to rejoice,” she stated, firmly declaring, “Main thi, main hoon aur main rahungi!” (I was, I am, and I will always be here!).
Reflecting on her two-decade career, she noted, “Murder was released in 2004, and now it’s 2024; it’s been 20 years. Big studios claim that in seven years, the tide changes, so I have been here for decades. The newcomers these days who are basking in their so-called claim to stardom—I will meet them in 2044, 20 years later, looking this fit, with a face free of makeup, plastic surgery, or Botox. Let’s see if they can weather the storm and meet me there.”
Currently, Mallika is reading scripts and searching for her next challenging role. Her recent film, Vicky Aur Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, features notable performances from Rajkummar Rao, Tripti Dimri, and Vijay Raaz in key roles.
