Northwell Health has inaugurated the Northwell Health Eye Institute, Wachenheim Center at Harrison, a state-of-the-art ophthalmology facility located at 440 Mamaroneck Ave. The $3.2 million center spans 6,200 square feet and is staffed by five physicians, enhancing Northwell’s reach in Westchester County.
The project was made possible with a generous $2.5 million donation from local philanthropists Sue and Ed Wachenheim. The facility features 11 exam rooms, specialized rooms for diagnostics, a visual field room for peripheral vision assessments, a procedure room for laser and minimally invasive treatments, a medication room, and dedicated office spaces for medical staff.
Attending the opening were Northwell Health leaders and the Wachenheims, whose contributions have also supported the creation of a wet lab and simulation training center at Northwell’s Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital (MEETH) in Manhattan. This center, established through donations in 2022 and 2023, provides essential training opportunities for ophthalmology students and practicing physicians to refine surgical skills in a controlled environment.
“The Wachenheims’ support allows us to bring advanced ophthalmology services to the community, elevating the standard of care for all patients,” said Kevin Beiner, president of Northwell Health’s Western Market.
The new Harrison location is part of Northwell’s recent expansions across Westchester and Rockland counties. Other recent developments include an orthopedic practice in Tarrytown, enhanced clinical services in Yorktown Heights and Chappaqua Crossing, a primary care practice in Monroe, and multi-specialty centers in White Plains, Yonkers, and Nanuet.
