Actress Kate Beckinsale’s recent appearance has raised concerns among fans, many of whom claim she looks “unrecognizable.” The 51-year-old star, known for her role in Serendipity, has been at the center of intense speculation regarding plastic surgery, with some experts suggesting she may have used the weight loss drug Ozempic.
Beckinsale’s recent public appearance at Variety’s 2024 Women of the Year event in Los Angeles drew significant attention. Observers noted her wrinkle-free forehead and pronounced cheekbones, leading to online comments labeling her as “so plastic” and “sick” looking.
In response to her weight loss, Beckinsale has stated that it resulted from a tear in her esophagus, which has made it difficult for her to eat normally. This condition has been compounded by the emotional stress of losing her stepfather, Roy Battersby, and her beloved cat, Clive, whom she described as her “soulmate.”
Experts in cosmetic surgery have weighed in on Beckinsale’s transformation. Dr. Dennis Schimpf, a board-certified plastic surgeon from Charleston, South Carolina, noted that rapid weight loss can lead to sagging skin and a loss of facial volume, prompting some individuals to seek injectable fillers to restore their appearance. “Current pictures of her clearly show a dramatic weight loss and loss of a significant amount of subcutaneous fat,” Schimpf stated. He further remarked on her maintained cheek and lip fullness, attributing this to the likely use of fillers or fat grafting.
Despite the ongoing rumors, Beckinsale has previously denied undergoing plastic surgery. In a past Instagram post, she shared a video of herself from 20 years ago while discussing the challenges of aging. “I hate talking about this because I hate adding to this conversation, but I’m doing it because insidious bullying of any kind over time takes a toll,” she wrote. “These videos might be 20 years apart – maybe more.”
