The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Jammu, in collaboration with the Health Department, organized a free health and eye check-up camp along with a road safety awareness session for drivers and conductors on Monday at the Ware House in Jammu.
The initiative, which aimed to promote the well-being of drivers and raise awareness about road safety, was held under the directions of Transport Commissioner Bhawani Rakwal and supervised by Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Jammu, Pankaj Bhagotra.
Approximately 300 drivers and conductors participated in the camp, benefiting from services such as eye tests for color blindness and vision impairments, as well as screenings for blood pressure, diabetes, and hemoglobin levels.
Speaking at the event, MVD representatives emphasized that the primary goal of the camp was to highlight the importance of personal health and hygiene for drivers, who play a crucial role in ensuring public safety. They also noted that such health camps would be organized on a regular basis to support drivers, who often face challenges in managing their health due to long working hours and busy schedules.
The event also featured an informative session on road safety, with ARTO Jammu briefing participants on key safety protocols to follow. The session underscored the critical need for drivers to maintain good health in order to reduce the risk of accidents and safeguard passengers.
Representatives from the Chief Medical Officer Jammu, Joint Transport Commissioner J&K, and several members of the Transport Union were present, joining the effort to promote health and safety within the transport sector.
The MVD expressed its gratitude to the drivers for their active participation and reiterated the importance of regular health check-ups to ensure their ability to perform their duties safely and effectively.
