Thrive Pet Healthcare, in collaboration with its partner Eye Care for Animals, has announced the opening of its second specialty ophthalmology clinic in Austin. The new facility, Eye Care for Animals Far West Boulevard, is located at 3908 Far West Boulevard, Suite A, Austin, and aims to meet the increasing demand for specialized eye care for pets.
“We are thrilled to expand our services in Austin and provide high-quality ophthalmic care to pets in need,” said Dr. Mary Lucille Walsh, a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist at the new clinic. “Many pets develop eye conditions that require specialized treatment, and our team is dedicated to preserving their vision and ensuring they maintain a high quality of life.”
The clinic offers comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for a variety of common and complex eye conditions affecting pets, including:
- Corneal disease
- Dry eye
- Conjunctivitis (pink eye)
- Eyelid masses
- Cataracts
- Glaucoma
- Cherry eye (prolapsed third eyelid gland)
- Entropion (inward-rolling eyelids)
With advanced training and access to state-of-the-art equipment, Dr. Walsh is equipped to treat even the most challenging eye conditions. She emphasizes the importance of early intervention, noting that many pets can lead fulfilling lives despite partial or total vision loss, as long as the underlying cause is addressed promptly.
“Owners are often the first to notice subtle changes in their pet’s behavior or vision,” Dr. Walsh explained. “Early detection and treatment are key to preventing unnecessary pain or discomfort and can help slow or stop progression to blindness.”
The new Far West Boulevard location builds on the success of Austin’s first Eye Care for Animals clinic, which opened in 2017 at 12419 Metric Boulevard. Both clinics work closely with primary care veterinarians to provide a collaborative, comprehensive approach to pet health, ensuring that pets receive the best possible care tailored to their needs.
Eye Care for Animals, founded in 1981, has grown to 40 locations across 16 states, treating more than 55,000 pets annually. With the opening of the Far West Boulevard clinic, Thrive Pet Healthcare continues its commitment to enhancing pet health through accessible, specialized veterinary services.
