Cuban influencer Flor de Cuba has found herself at the center of controversy following a recent cosmetic surgery procedure in Miami. The surgery, which included chin and arm liposuction, sparked a wave of online criticism. However, the influencer is standing firm, addressing the backlash with an assertive response on her Instagram stories.
In one post, Flor de Cuba expressed her frustration with the way Cuban society views cosmetic surgery. She highlighted the double standard in the way Cuban artists and influencers are treated compared to their international counterparts. “It’s interesting how Cubans idolize and admire female artists and influencers from other countries. They call them their crushes, praise their beauty, and acknowledge all the surgeries they’ve had. But when a Cuban artist or influencer does it, they bully, humiliate, and criticize,” she wrote.
Flor went on to criticize what she perceives as a cultural tendency to elevate foreign figures while diminishing the achievements of those from her homeland. She added, “There’s no harsher blow than the one from your own kind, and I’m starting to truly believe that no one is a prophet in their own land. We’ve been taught to worship foreigners and prioritize them in EVERYTHING, and it’s becoming evident.”
In a bid to illustrate her point, Flor shared photos of Georgina Rodríguez, the wife of soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, also highlighting her recent chin surgery. The comparison was intended to underscore the selective nature of the criticism, drawing attention to how foreign public figures are often celebrated for undergoing similar procedures.
The influencer also took the opportunity to express her growing disillusionment with her community. “Every day I’m growing more disgusted with my community. How they wish ill upon others, how they despise those who manage to succeed, how they want misery to be shared equally,” she wrote. She further described the mentality as one rooted in “communism,” and claimed that this pervasive mindset fosters envy and bitterness, particularly toward those who manage to escape economic hardships.
Flor de Cuba did not shy away from criticizing what she sees as a deeply rooted societal issue. She referred to it as a “frustrated, traumatized, and distorted generation,” one that is manipulated by those who exploit these collective traumas for their own gain. “The worst part is that there are those who know this and take advantage, pulling the strings by exploiting these traumas and prospering by fostering more hatred,” she said.
The influencer made the decision to undergo cosmetic surgery shortly after arriving in Miami for her second visit. She openly documented the entire process, sharing the details with her followers on social media.
While Flor de Cuba continues to face harsh criticism, she remains steadfast in her belief that the backlash stems from deeper societal issues that go beyond her personal choices.
