The Guild of Optometric Directors of Nigeria (GOODON) has reaffirmed its dedication to advancing high-quality eye care services across the country. This commitment was articulated in a communiqué issued by GOODON’s President, Dr. Adesuwa Agbontaen, FNCO, FNOA, and Secretary, Dr. Chigozirim Nwosu, FNOA, during the association’s 3rd Annual National Conference and Business Expo held in Abuja.
Themed “The Business of Eye Care Today: Maximizing Efficiency and Profitability,” the event highlighted the Guild’s focus on delivering exceptional optometric services while ensuring sustainability in the sector. Dr. Agbontaen emphasized that the theme encapsulates GOODON’s drive to uphold high standards in eye care delivery, underscoring the importance of efficiency and long-term viability.
GOODON, representing directors of private optometric clinics nationwide, plays a pivotal role in Nigeria’s eye care ecosystem. The organization aims to advance service standards by advocating for improved regulations, professional growth, and the sustainability of eye care practices.
Call to Action for Stakeholders and Government
The Guild stressed the need for all stakeholders to support the efficiency and sustainability of private eye care providers. It urged the government and its agencies to grant special waivers for eye care resources—both locally manufactured and imported—ensuring their availability to meet consumer needs. Additionally, GOODON called on public agencies to collaborate with the Guild to enhance service delivery across Nigeria.
Eye care providers were advised to adhere to government regulations, maintain high standards in their products and services, and stay informed about advancements in the field. The communiqué also encouraged GOODON members to display the association’s emblem at their practice locations to help the public identify qualified practitioners and avoid unlicensed operators.
