Teddi Mellencamp is celebrating a significant milestone in her ongoing battle with melanoma. In a heartfelt Instagram video shared on December 16, the 43-year-old Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum announced that, after two years of regular skin checks, she will not need to undergo another biopsy.
Mellencamp, who was diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma in 2022, has undergone 15 surgeries to remove 17 cancerous spots. In her video, she described the emotional relief of her latest checkup.
“I just got done having a little cry, but it’s a good one,” Mellencamp said, expressing her joy at being told there were no new spots of concern. “It’s the first time, in over two years, I’ve gone in for my three-month check and not had to have a biopsy because I have another cancer spot.”
She recalled her reaction to the news, sharing that she and her doctor exchanged a surprised “What?” before celebrating the moment. Mellencamp will return for another check in March.
Encouraging others to prioritize their health, she ended the video with a powerful reminder: “Please, please, book your skin checks, book your mammograms, book your OBGYN appointments, book your eye doctor appointments.”
Mellencamp’s journey with melanoma began in 2022, and she has faced both emotional and physical challenges. She revealed that immunotherapy, which she tried in 2023, was unsuccessful. Despite the setbacks, her perseverance has remained steadfast.
In the post’s caption, Mellencamp shared how difficult it is to face the anxiety that accompanies each skin check. “The anxiety always takes over; the thought of another biopsy, another surgery, another addition to the scar on my back,” she wrote. “But today the tears were those of joy. Because for the first time, there wasn’t anything abnormal, nothing that needed an extra look. And I am grateful.”
The mother of three expressed deep gratitude to her doctors, nurses, and supporters. “As long as you’re here, I have a reason to keep advocating for myself and for others,” she said.
Mellencamp also posted an update on her healing journey, sharing a photo of her scars. “What incredible doctors and nurses I have had throughout these surgeries. Over 1,000 stitches later. Get your skin checked, please,” she urged her followers.
Her positive update comes after a series of challenging milestones, including a July announcement that she had to undergo another procedure to remove two more melanoma spots. Reflecting on her earlier procedure, Mellencamp had noted the relief of catching the melanoma in its early stages.
Mellencamp’s ongoing commitment to raising awareness about skin cancer and encouraging regular screenings remains an inspiring testament to her resilience.
