Malang Tank, a promising startup established in May 2023, is making waves in the eye care industry with its innovative product line under the brand name “Solutioner.” Led by CEO Jeon Ui-jin, the company aims to address the growing need for eye health solutions, especially as age-related eye issues, including presbyopia, are increasingly affecting individuals in their 20s and 30s.
Jeon, reflecting on the challenges faced by consumers, noted, “The need for eye care is growing, but realistically, there hasn’t been much beyond artificial tears.” This insight led to the creation of Malang Tank and its flagship product, “Doctor Eye,” an eye humidifier designed to combat dryness and irritation caused by factors such as blue light exposure from screens, fine dust, and UV rays.
The name Malang Tank symbolizes a sturdy, flexible vessel for creative ideas, while “Solutioner” embodies the company’s mission to offer practical solutions to everyday problems. “Doctor Eye,” the company’s pioneering product, offers a lightweight and easy-to-use design, allowing users to apply moisture drop by drop, even when the water level is low. This innovative design eliminates the hygiene concerns common in traditional humidifiers, which often suffer from bacterial growth in stagnant water. Malang Tank uses antimicrobial and sterilized materials to ensure the device remains clean and effective, with a patent application already underway for the design.
In recognition of its innovation, “Doctor Eye” was selected for the prestigious 2024 Seoul Award, which highlights outstanding products from Seoul-based SMEs suitable for international markets. The device is available for purchase both online and offline, with a regular price of 48,900 won, though it is currently offered at a discount of approximately 20,000 won.
In addition to “Doctor Eye,” Solutioner has expanded its product range to include “Eye Warmer,” a device designed to soothe the eyes with heat, and “Today is Clear Lutein,” a health supplement aimed at improving eye health. Malang Tank has plans to extend its product line further, including the potential development of medical devices specifically for eye care.
Looking ahead, the company plans to strengthen its presence in the eye care market by raising awareness of its eye humidifiers and expanding its product offerings. Malang Tank is also eyeing international markets, particularly in Japan and the United States, where there is a growing demand for eye health solutions. The company has already entered Amazon’s marketplace, marking its first step toward global expansion.
Jeon Ui-jin emphasized the company’s commitment to continuous research and development to differentiate its products and create entry barriers that will support long-term growth. “We will strive to establish our brand in the global market through innovation and sustained efforts,” he stated.
Malang Tank operates out of Dongguk University’s CAMPUSTOWN, where it receives support from both the Seoul City and Dongguk University programs aimed at fostering startup growth. These programs provide Malang Tank with resources, including startup spaces, educational opportunities, and ongoing consulting from industry experts, all aimed at driving the company’s expansion and success.
