MTV star Jacky Oh died from complications following cosmetic surgery, an autopsy report has revealed.
Oh, who was also known as Jacklyn Smith, died the day after undergoing “gluteal augmentation” surgery in Florida, according to the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s report seen by NBC News, Sky News’ US partner.
The mother-of-three was part of Wild ‘N Out, a US sketch comedy and rap battle improvisation game created and hosted by Nick Cannon for five seasons.
She had travelled from Georgia to Florida for the surgery, the report said.
The procedure is used to “improve the contour, size and shape of the buttocks,” according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
This is achieved through fat grafting, which involves transferring fat from another part of the body, or silicone implants – or sometimes a combination of the two techniques.
Risks associated with the procedure, listed on the American Society of Plastic Surgeons website, include bleeding, deep vein thrombosis, and cardiac and pulmonary complications.
The autopsy report goes on to say that Oh had the surgery on 30 May and was prescribed the antibiotic ciprofloxacin, the painkiller oxycodone and the anti-nausea drug ondansetron.
She says she developed a headache after the operation and a nurse advised her to stop taking the ondansetron and take ibuprofen as needed.
On the night of 31 May, Oh “began to feel as if her head was on fire”.
Her aunt, who was travelling with her, contacted emergency services and Oh was taken unresponsive to Florida Mercy Hospital, the medical examiner wrote.
She was pronounced dead at the hospital later that night.
The coroner’s report said she was 33 at the time of her death, but reports at the time said she was 32, with her 33rd birthday not until November.
