Following concerns raised by fans about Madonna’s health, a New York-based plastic surgeon recently analysed the ‘Material Girl’ singer’s past cosmetic procedures in an interview with the Daily Mail. The Grammy winner’s recent Instagram photos have led to concerns about her appearance, with some fans saying she looks “completely different” and “unrecognisable” from her former self in 2023.
Although rumours of plastic surgery have dogged Madonna, 65, for years, she only recently admitted to undergoing the procedure. However, she has not revealed any details about the type of procedures she has undergone or how often.
After examining before and after pictures of the Queen of Pop, board-certified surgeon Dr Barry Weintraub found evidence of at least “twelve cosmetic facial procedures”, which he estimates to have cost several “six figures”.
One of the most striking changes Weintraub observed was to Madonna’s cheeks, which now appear “inflated” and “much fuller”. This change is likely a result of the multiple dermal filler injections she has received, where gel-like substances are injected under the skin.
Dr Weintraub also noted that Madonna no longer has her characteristic dimples, which could also be attributed to the use of fillers. Dr Weintraub suggested that the La Isla Bonita hitmaker may have had a brow lift in recent years, as evidenced by her “unusually high” forehead and above-average eyebrows.
Typically, brow lifts involve making an incision along the top of the scalp and then pulling back the skin to remove any sagging or wrinkles.
You can see a flatter, straighter line, which suggests there may have been an incision in front of the hairline [to lift the skin],” he explained. He added: “Her eyebrows are [also] higher than the position of her eyebrows in 1986, which means the distance between her eyelashes and eyebrows is much higher than ours. You see a lot more volume in the upper third of her face.
According to the doctor, her eyelids have also undergone surgery to give them a more youthful appearance and remove any wrinkles or lines. “When you get into your 60s, there are often pockets of fat in the lower eyelids and some excess skin in the upper eyelids,” he noted.
“In these pictures, however, you see none of either,” he continued. “Her lower eyelids are completely smooth, which means the skin has probably been removed. The fat pads have also been removed, so what you’re seeing is this smoothness and tightness all around, and that’s from the surgical lifting and volumising.”
It is highly likely that Madonna has had Botox injections around her forehead and eyes, the doctor believes, as there were no wrinkles when she moved her face in recent Instagram videos. He also noted that the style icon’s prominent mole above her lip appeared less prominent in recent photos, which could be the result of lighting or facial enhancements.
Dr Weintraub also suspects that Madonna may have had a nose job. He also commented on the mum-of-six’s noticeably fuller features, attributing it to her alleged repeated use of “fillers and fat injections”.
He continued: “Her cheekbones are much, much fuller and that is secondary to either fat or filler injections. We see this all too often in our field, but unfortunately people tend to fill their faces to try and plump out wrinkles.”
The surgeon added: “She also has… two little dimples on either side [in the original picture] that you can’t see now because they’re filled with fat.
The superstar’s performance at the Grammy Awards earlier this year sparked widespread concern and criticism due to the extent of her facial changes, which left her “unrecognisable”. Madonna was reportedly “shaken” by the comments.
She initially blamed “ageism” and “misogyny” for the negative attention, but eventually admitted she had undergone plastic surgery. Writing on Instagram at the time: “Look how cute I am now that the swelling from the surgery has gone down. Lol.”
After a delay due to a life-threatening bacterial infection, Madonna is now preparing for her much-anticipated Celebration World Tour, which kicks off at London’s O2 Arena this week before embarking on a journey across Europe and the United States.
