An 18-year-old from Zhejiang province in eastern China, Zhou Chuna, has undergone over 100 plastic surgeries, totaling more than 4 million yuan, in a bid to emulate her favorite actress, Esther Yu. The extensive cosmetic procedures were motivated by Chuna’s desire to achieve the perceived beauty standards represented by Yu, reported the South China Morning Post (SCMP).
Chuna’s fascination with altering her appearance began at the age of 13, when she underwent her first plastic surgery – a double eyelid procedure. From there, she became fixated on transforming her features, eventually dropping out of school to pursue further cosmetic enhancements, as detailed by SCMP.
Struggling with feelings of anxiety and depression regarding her looks since childhood, Chuna felt discomfort when compared to her attractive mother and believed her classmates at an international school in Shanghai were more attractive and confident, fueling her desire for change.
“I’ve had almost all the plastic surgeries you can think of, among them rhinoplasty and bone shaving,” Chuna revealed, highlighting the extent of her surgical journey.
Despite warnings from medical professionals and enduring the painful aftermath of procedures like bone shaving, which left her bedridden for 15 days, Chuna persisted in her pursuit of transformation. She disregarded advice against further surgeries, even resorting to finding new doctors to accommodate her requests, SCMP reported.
While the surgeries have bolstered her confidence and kept alive her dream of stardom, Chuna’s parents have ceased supporting her obsession. Her father disapproves of her altered appearance, and medical practitioners have cautioned against additional procedures. As a result, Chuna has declared an end to her surgical endeavors, marking a turning point in her cosmetic journey.
