An 18-year-old in China has made headlines after undergoing over a hundred cosmetic surgeries in a bid to resemble her favorite actress. Zhou Chuna’s journey, as reported by the South China Morning Post (SCMP), began at the tender age of 13 when she embarked on a quest to transform her appearance. Over the span of five years, Zhou has reportedly spent more than 4 million yuan, equivalent to approximately Rs 4.6 crore, of her parents’ funds on these extensive procedures.
Driven by a desire to emulate the beauty of Esther Yu, her beloved actress, Zhou’s decision to undergo a series of cosmetic surgeries underscores her aspiration to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.
From an early age, Zhou grappled with feelings of insecurity about her appearance, often being unfavorably compared to her mother. These insecurities intensified when she enrolled in an international school in Shanghai, exacerbating her sense of inadequacy.
Zhou’s cosmetic journey commenced with her mother’s consent for a double eyelid procedure at the age of 13. However, this initial surgery served as a gateway to a multitude of subsequent procedures, leading Zhou to eventually abandon her education to pursue further alterations.
“I’ve had almost all the plastic surgeries you can think of, among them rhinoplasty and bone shaving,” Zhou revealed, detailing the extensive interventions she underwent, including ten eyelid procedures, nose jobs, and bone shaving, the latter being particularly excruciating.
Reflecting on the transformative impact of her surgeries, Zhou noted that her altered appearance has rendered her unrecognizable to old acquaintances, underscoring the profound extent of her physical transformation.
Despite initially consenting to her daughter’s surgical pursuits, Zhou’s mother has since withdrawn her support. Additionally, Zhou’s father disapproves of her new look, while medical professionals have cautioned against further procedures, citing potential risks such as muscle twitching, facial nerve failure, and neurological damage from excessive anesthesia.
Dr. Lin Yonggang, a physician at a Shanghai-based private medical cosmetic hospital, emphasized the dangers associated with additional surgeries, warning that further interventions could irreversibly damage Zhou’s facial features and lead to severe complications.
