In a heartfelt gesture of compassion, the Agege Molebi United Forum (AMUF), a non-governmental organization based in Agege, has stepped forward to assist a 12-year-old girl, Aminant Alege, who was injured in the eye by a teargas canister allegedly fired by an unidentified police officer in Dopemu Area of Agege.
The incident, which occurred on Friday, left Aminant in need of urgent medical attention, with the family facing financial strain to cover the necessary medical expenses.
Concerned by her plight and the lack of assistance from any quarters, AMUF rallied together and raised a sum of 1 million naira to aid in her medical treatment, particularly the surgery required for her eye.
CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, one of the leaders of AMUF and Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), emphasized the importance of supporting Aminant, highlighting her status as a resident of Agege and the absence of aid from other sources. He clarified that the funds used by the family for her initial medical expenses were acquired as a loan.
Egbeyemi described AMUF’s contribution as a token of support from the organization, with individual members also expressing their willingness to assist Aminant further.
He encouraged the family to remain hopeful and expressed prayers for Aminant’s swift recovery, wishing strength and resilience for both her and her family during this challenging time.
Hajia Maryam Alege, a family member, expressed gratitude for AMUF’s intervention, acknowledging the significant relief the donations would provide to their situation. She commended the forum for its compassionate act, stating that it has reignited hope for a brighter future amid adversity.
“Today, we have witnessed compassion expressed in the real sense. Today we have been given hope again, that there’s light at the end of the tunnel by Agege Molebi United Forum. By the special grace of God, Agege Molebi United Forum will grow from strength to strength and wax stronger and better,” she remarked, reflecting the family’s appreciation for the support received.
