Tributes have poured in following the passing of Nicholas “Nick” Hart, a distinguished plastic surgeon and co-founder of the Overseas Plastic Surgery Appeal (OPSA), who passed away at the age of 73.
Hart, a resident of Woodmansey, dedicated a significant portion of his career to OPSA, a Hessle-based charity committed to providing life-changing cleft lip and palate surgeries for children in developing nations. Rae McGlone, trustee at OPSA, expressed deep sorrow over Hart’s demise, emphasizing his extraordinary dedication and service to the cause. McGlone highlighted Hart’s unwavering commitment to improving the lives of children in Pakistan, a testament to his compassionate spirit and visionary leadership.
Hart’s impact extended beyond borders as he utilized his surgical expertise to perform life-altering procedures for children in need. His compassionate approach and exceptional skills as a cleft lip and palate surgeon left an indelible mark on countless lives. Despite retiring from surgical practice in 2015, Hart remained actively involved in philanthropic endeavors, continuing to advocate for underprivileged children and families through OPSA.
Throughout his tenure as chairman of OPSA, Hart played a pivotal role in advancing the charity’s mission, forging partnerships with local organizations in Pakistan and raising awareness about the plight of vulnerable communities. A requiem mass was held in honor of Hart at St John of Beverley Catholic Church on March 20, following his peaceful passing at Dove House Hospice on March 1.
