Actor Harsh Chhaya has recently defended the use of cosmetic procedures, challenging the stigma often associated with them. The 57-year-old, who appeared in the web series Gyaarah Gyaarah, used cosmetic fillers to portray Sameer, a character who ages over a span of 16 years throughout the series.
Chhaya, who plays the lead role in the series exploring different time periods, chose to undergo cosmetic enhancements to accurately depict his character’s aging process. He emphasizes that opting for cosmetic surgery or fillers is a deeply personal decision, asserting, “People today have various options available, and if someone can afford them, then why not? It’s crucial to remember that everyone is working hard for their money, and it is not for anyone else to judge how they choose to spend it.”
Addressing the stigma surrounding cosmetic enhancements, Chhaya acknowledges that many actors feel pressured to conceal their procedures. He admits, “I am open about it because it was a temporary measure, but if I had to do it regularly, I might have kept it private.”
The conversation around cosmetic procedures has gained traction in recent years, with other actors such as Khushi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao also revealing their use of fillers. This trend prompts discussions about the growing acceptance of such practices within both society and the entertainment industry.
Chhaya notes a shift towards greater social acceptance, stating, “Social acceptance has increased, and procedures like liposuction and hair transplants are becoming more common. People outside the industry are also opting for these treatments. Unlike our parents and grandparents, who might find these practices unfamiliar, my generation sees them as routine. Personally, I don’t find it unusual.”
For his role in Gyaarah Gyaarah, Chhaya opted for fillers on his forehead and around his eyes to portray a younger version of his character. He explains, “The shoot sequence required a younger look for certain scenes, and despite trying makeup to achieve this, it was not effective. Hence, I decided to use fillers.”
Chhaya’s comments highlight an evolving perspective on cosmetic procedures, reflecting a broader acceptance of personal choices in the pursuit of professional roles.
