Actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut, who is preparing for the release of her upcoming film Emergency, has opened up about the intense preparations she underwent to portray Indira Gandhi. Ranaut revealed she underwent “special” aging treatments to authentically embody the former Prime Minister. Known for her candid remarks, she also took aim at Bollywood’s star kids, criticizing them for relying on gym workouts and cosmetic procedures rather than engaging with the public.
Ranaut contended that while she endures considerable personal effort for her roles, star kids often maintain a distance from real-life struggles. “Honestly, I am not criticizing. I’m only saying, go out in the sun, but what do they do? They come out of their cars and say, ‘Hi, I want this, I want that.’ Starkids aged 40, or girls aged 30 or 35 years, wear pink glasses and do their act. The trauma, the torture that I go through, nobody watches that,” she stated.
The film’s release, initially scheduled for September 6, 2024, has been delayed due to pending certification from the Certification Board. Emergency has generated controversy over accusations of ‘misleading’ and ‘offensive’ portrayals of the Sikh community in its trailer. The film features a notable cast including Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik. Ranaut has yet to comment on the postponement.
