K-pop artist Jessi has long been an advocate for transparency regarding cosmetic surgery, but she recently opened up about a distressing experience from her past that led to a troubling addiction.
In an insightful appearance on Apple TV’s documentary series, the “ZOOM” singer disclosed that her initial foray into cosmetic surgery was not a choice made freely, but rather a decision imposed by her former agency. Jessi recounted how her agency mandated a nose job, an experience that inadvertently triggered a series of subsequent procedures.
“The first time I got surgery, it was a nose job that I had to get. I tweaked it,” Jessi shared. While she hoped the procedure would enhance her beauty and self-confidence, it instead made her more critical of her appearance. “After the surgery, I started noticing all the flaws in my face that I hadn’t seen before,” she explained. This newfound self-awareness led her to undergo additional surgeries, including breast augmentation, double eyelid surgery, and lip fillers.
The mounting pressure to perfect her looks took a toll on Jessi’s self-esteem, culminating in a public backlash that targeted her enhanced features. The singer recounted, “When I first got the lip injections, I liked them. But I started overdoing it, and the negative comments began pouring in. I eventually had to get my lips dissolved.”
Despite these challenges, Jessi remains a proponent of cosmetic surgery when it is pursued voluntarily. She emphasized the importance of personal choice and self-regulation, urging both individuals and agencies to avoid coercion. “Enhancing yourself is fine if you choose to do it. Being forced to do it is a completely different matter,” Jessi stated. She highlighted the difficulty of maintaining control once one starts altering their appearance, noting that it can lead to a relentless pursuit of perceived perfection.
