Newly compiled data has identified the most perilous cosmetic surgeries, highlighting eye color change surgery as the most hazardous procedure. According to a study by Overnight Glasses, eye color change surgeries, including cosmetic iris implants, laser pigment removal, and keratopigmentation, have an alarming 92 percent complication rate. This procedure carries significant risks such as vision loss, glaucoma, and corneal damage, with recovery times ranging from 1 to 8 weeks and an average cost of $12,000.
The study evaluated the danger of various cosmetic surgeries by analyzing complication rates, recovery times, and severity of complications. The data normalization process involved scaling factors to a 0-1 range for comparability, with greater emphasis placed on complication rates and severity. The composite score for each procedure was derived from these weighted factors.
Following eye color change surgery, the thigh lift emerged as the second most dangerous procedure, with a 78 percent complication rate. It is followed by the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), which has a 38 percent complication rate and a high risk of fat embolism and infection. This procedure also has a recovery period of 6 to 8 weeks.
Additional insights from the data reveal that breast reduction surgeries have a complication rate twice as high as breast augmentation surgeries. The study underscores the need for prospective patients to carefully consider these risks before undergoing cosmetic procedures.
