Dr. Alan Matarasso, a prominent figure in the field of plastic surgery, has been elected president of The Plastic Surgery Foundation (The PSF), effective September 29, 2024, during the annual Plastic Surgery The Meeting conference. The PSF is dedicated to supporting research and international initiatives of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).
Dr. Matarasso, known for his commitment to medical training, education, and scientific research, will serve a one-year term. “I am honored to lead The PSF and continue our deep commitment to advancing plastic surgery through research and collaboration,” he stated. He aims to enhance the Foundation’s research initiatives and expand the role of plastic surgery in global health care.
With over 1,000 peer-reviewed articles and more than 700 presentations to his name, Dr. Matarasso is a leading expert in aesthetic plastic surgery. His insights are frequently sought by media outlets, making him a well-known figure in the field.
Dr. Matarasso’s dedication to the specialty is extensive. He currently serves as assistant national secretary for the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) and is the U.S. delegate to the International Confederation of Plastic Surgery Societies (ICOPLAST). His leadership experience includes past presidencies with ASPS, The Rhinoplasty Society, and the New York Regional Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Recognized for his commitment to patient care, Dr. Matarasso has consistently been named among the top plastic surgeons by various publications, including The New York Times Magazine and Vogue. He has also recently joined the Warren B. Davis Circle, acknowledging his contributions to the field.
A graduate of the University of Miami-Miller School of Medicine, Dr. Matarasso completed his general surgery training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine-Montefiore Hospital, where he served as chief resident in plastic surgery. He is currently a clinical professor of surgery and systems chief of cosmetic surgery at Hofstra University Zucker School of Medicine/Northwell Health System, practicing in Manhattan with privileges at several medical centers.
