Credo Beauty, often referred to as the “Whole Foods of Beauty,” has officially launched its own skincare line, and there’s a lot to unpack. Co-founder and CEO Annie Jackson shared insights about this new venture and the importance of sustainable packaging in a recent conversation with The Daily Beast.
A Commitment to Clean Beauty
Credo Beauty aims to provide a safe shopping environment for skincare enthusiasts. Similar to how Whole Foods avoids harmful additives like high fructose corn syrup, Credo ensures that its products are free from toxic chemicals. With this new skincare line, the retailer is extending its commitment to clean beauty.
Product Offerings
The new line, Credo Skin, features six products, including two cleansers and four moisturizers. Each product addresses specific skincare concerns, from gentle lathers for sensitive skin to creams designed to reduce the appearance of fine lines. A common theme among all products is their focus on hydration and strengthening the skin barrier.
Notably, every formula includes vetiver root, an ingredient selected based on its clinical benefits. Jackson explained, “That was a unique ingredient we chose based on the clinical results we got out of it. We liked that it was upcycled from what would typically be discarded as part of the manufacturing process for fragrance.” This sustainable choice not only benefits the skin but also adds a light scent to the products.
Sustainable Packaging Practices
Credo Beauty’s emphasis on sustainable packaging is critical in an industry responsible for generating approximately 120 billion packages each year. Jackson highlighted the recycling challenges of smaller items, noting, “A good rule of thumb is anything smaller than your fist or a yogurt cup will not get collected in a recycling facility. It’ll just go straight to landfill.”
To combat this issue, Credo Skin products come in glass containers and mono-material plastic pumps, making them easier to recycle. The brand has also co-founded a nonprofit called Pact Collective, which collects empty containers at Credo locations for recycling. Interestingly, the pumps used in the skincare line are made from recycled plastic collected in-store.
A Long-Awaited Launch
Since its first store opening in 2015, Credo Beauty has been a pioneer in the clean beauty movement, even before it became mainstream. The company always intended to develop its own skincare line but prioritized adding other brands to its platform first. Nearly a decade later, that vision has come to fruition, with more products expected in the future, though none have been officially announced yet.
Pricing and Availability
The Credo Skin collection is now available, with prices ranging from $44 for face wash products to $64 for moisturizers. For those interested in trying the new line, it can be found at Credo locations and online.
In conclusion, Credo Beauty’s launch of its skincare line reflects its commitment to clean, sustainable beauty, offering effective products that cater to various skincare needs while prioritizing environmental responsibility.
