Ariana Grande has taken a bold stance against cosmetic surgery rumors in her latest collaboration with Charli XCX on the remix of “Sympathy is a Knife.” This track is part of Charli’s newly released remix album, Brat and It’s Completely Different but Also Still Brat, which hit streaming platforms on October 11.
The pop sensation joins Charli XCX on a synth-heavy rendition of the original song, where their verses are delivered in a spoken-word style. Unlike the original, which focuses on another woman’s impact on insecurities, this remix delves into the challenges of fame and the scrutiny faced by celebrities in the media.
One notable lyric from the track highlights this theme: “It’s a knife when you’re so pretty, they think you must be fake/ It’s a knife when they dissect your body on the front page.”
In recent years, Grande has been open about the body shaming she has encountered and has repeatedly addressed speculation regarding her appearance. During a lie detector test interview with her Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo, Grande firmly denied undergoing several cosmetic procedures, including rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, facelifts, fox-eye lifts, chin implants, and Brazilian butt lifts. A polygraph examiner confirmed that she was telling the truth.
Grande did acknowledge having received fillers and Botox in the past, stating, “I stopped like four years ago… And that is the extent.” She also expressed her support for those who choose to undergo cosmetic procedures, saying, “Whatever makes women, men, gender non-conforming people feel beautiful should be allowed. Why do we care?”
With this remix and her outspoken attitude, Ariana Grande continues to challenge societal beauty standards while advocating for individual choice in self-expression.
