1. Use Sunscreen: Sunscreen remains crucial even in winter. It not only shields your skin from harmful UV rays but also from visible light and infrared radiation. Look for sunscreens with antioxidants like Pycnogenol, Silymarin, and Polypodium to combat oxidative stress on your skin.
2. Cleanse Before Bedtime: Always ensure that you remove your makeup before going to sleep. Residual makeup can clog pores and lead to unhealthy, dull skin. A biphasic makeup remover followed by a gentle cleanser is ideal. Supramolecular salicylic acid is recommended as it cleanses and exfoliates without stripping the skin of essential moisture.
3. Skip the Toners: During stressful times, toners and overnight exfoliators can heighten skin sensitivity. Instead, opt for gentler exfoliating products that work quickly, which will help maintain skin health without added irritation.
4. Incorporate Polyphenol-Rich Foods: Foods high in polyphenols, such as cranberry and grape juice, or Pycnogenol supplements, can significantly reduce skin stress. To counteract the effects of sugary, high-glycemic index foods, include balancers like olives, avocados, sprouts, and microgreens in your diet.
5. Stay Hydrated: Festive indulgences combined with late nights and air conditioning can lead to skin dehydration. Aim to drink between 3 to 3.5 liters of water daily to maintain hydration, which will help reduce the risk of pigmentation and dullness.
6. Prioritize Sleep and Moisturize: Quality sleep is vital for skin recovery. Elevate your head with two pillows to prevent puffy eyes and create a comfortable sleep environment to allow your skin to rejuvenate. Applying a deeply nourishing overnight moisturizer on your face and body can also be beneficial for stressed skin.
