Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a state-of-the-art eye hospital in his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi on Sunday. The facility, run by the Kanchi Math, is set to provide comprehensive eye consultations and treatments for a wide range of conditions.
The RJ Sankara Eye Hospital will serve residents across 20 districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh and neighboring regions in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, according to representatives from the Kanchi Math. This hospital marks the Kanchi Math’s 14th facility in India, with a goal of conducting 30,000 free eye surgeries annually.
During his day-long visit to Varanasi, Prime Minister Modi will also launch several development projects, including nationwide airport initiatives valued at over ₹6,100 crore. His arrival at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport was met by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
As the prime minister’s convoy made its way into the city, enthusiastic crowds lined the streets, showering it with flower petals. The welcoming celebrations included traditional drumbeats.
Prior to the hospital’s inauguration, Modi met with the Shankaracharya of the Kanchi Math and attended an exhibition, accompanied by Governor Patel and Chief Minister Adityanath.
This new healthcare initiative is expected to significantly enhance medical support for residents in the region, especially those in need of eye care.
