Following the release of her new spy thriller Canary Black, actress Kate Beckinsale is facing renewed speculation about alleged plastic surgery. The Amazon Prime Video film features Beckinsale as a CIA agent who becomes embroiled in a dangerous blackmail scheme orchestrated by an international terrorist organization.
Rumors surrounding plastic surgery are not uncommon in Hollywood, with Beckinsale becoming the latest target of such claims. Just months ago, actress Kristen Bell was similarly accused of undergoing cosmetic procedures ahead of her appearance in the Netflix film Nobody Wants This, though those allegations remain unverified.
As fans express curiosity about Beckinsale’s appearance, the 51-year-old actress has firmly denied having any cosmetic enhancements. She previously stated in July 2021 that she has not undergone any procedures, insisting, “I’m frightened of paralyzing my face.” Beckinsale recounted her mother’s disapproval of cosmetic treatments, explaining, “My mum wouldn’t even get a facial; she is suspicious of anything like that and looks f***ing radiant and amazing.” Although she has expressed a willingness to explore procedures like PRP (platelet-rich plasma therapy), she remains adamantly opposed to Botox and other injectables.
In May 2023, following accusations of having a facelift, Beckinsale humorously dismissed the claims in an Instagram post, responding to a fan’s astonishment at her appearance: “I haven’t [had any work done] sorry… Maybe in July everything will start falling off.” However, the speculation resurfaced in November 2023 after she shared an update about a dental procedure. In response to comments about her appearance following her wisdom teeth extraction, she criticized the notion that she needed work done and highlighted the pressure to maintain a certain image, stating, “You don’t need work done to your face. This is a bad example to young girls growing up saying you can’t age gracefully.”
Earlier this year, Beckinsale reiterated her stance against the plastic surgery rumors in a now-deleted Instagram post, asserting, “It’s really such a tiresome and subtly vicious way to bully a person.” She emphasized that despite consulting a plastic surgeon to clarify her position, she continues to face accusations of having undergone drastic changes.
Reflecting on her relationship with aging, Beckinsale noted the irony in being bullied for fearing age when her greatest childhood fear was not reaching adulthood, having lost her father at a young age. “Life happens — obviously I have aged; everybody ages,” she explained, adding that her current focus is on “surviving loss” rather than on maintaining a youthful appearance.
Beckinsale’s remarks highlight the ongoing conversation about societal pressures regarding beauty standards, particularly for women in the entertainment industry. She implores her detractors to recognize the impact of such bullying and has called for an end to the relentless speculation regarding her appearance.
Canary Black is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
