In a significant humanitarian initiative, Morocco’s Health and Social Protection Delegation of Boulemane Province, under the guidance of the Regional Health Directorate of Fes-Meknes, launched a free health caravan dedicated to eye surgeries. The campaign, held from October 26 to 31, 2024, focused on improving access to quality healthcare services.
This project, supported by the International Eye Foundation and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, operated under the slogan “Eyes that See Hope” and aimed to provide essential ophthalmology services to local communities.
The caravan offered specialized eye examinations and identified 680 cases of cataracts out of 4,930 people initially screened during the first phase at the Center for Youth Capacities in Missour. Patients also received additional health assessments, including blood pressure and blood sugar screenings, which determined that 505 individuals needed surgical intervention.
In the program’s second phase, surgical teams at El Messira Green Hospital in Missour performed cataract removal surgeries on 482 patients. Beneficiaries also received vital medications and health education, enhancing the quality of care and health outcomes.
As part of Morocco’s 2024 “Light” volunteer program to combat blindness, this initiative seeks to reduce waiting times for medical examinations and surgeries, particularly in rural areas. Patients expressed profound gratitude, sharing how the project renewed their hope for improved vision.
This initiative underscores the dedication of regional and local authorities in Boulemane Province to improve health services and infrastructure, particularly in underserved regions.
