Demi Moore, the 61-year-old actress, delighted her fans this Halloween by sharing behind-the-scenes images from her upcoming horror film, “The Substance.”
On October 31, Moore took to Instagram to reveal haunting photos that highlight the extensive makeup and prosthetics she underwent to portray her character, Elisabeth Sparkle. Elisabeth is a Hollywood star grappling with an existential crisis after her long-running aerobics show is canceled on her 50th birthday.
In the striking images, Moore appears drastically altered, featuring heavy makeup, prosthetics, and glasses that create the appearance of a frail elderly woman. The gruesome details, including sagging body parts and sparse hair, showcase the intense physical transformation required for the role. “Been holding onto these gems from @trythesubstance and today feels like an appropriate day to share them,” she wrote in her caption. “Happy Halloween from Elisabeth Sparkle.”
In “The Substance,” Moore’s character discovers a black market drug that allows her to create a younger version of herself, played by Margaret Qualley. The film delves into the ensuing conflict between Elisabeth and her youthful counterpart, Sue, who achieves fame in Los Angeles while Elisabeth’s body deteriorates.
Moore’s Instagram post has received acclaim from her celebrity peers, including Emma Heming Willis, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Barbara Crampton, who praised her performance in the film.
Directed by French filmmaker Coralie Fargeat, “The Substance” also stars Dennis Quaid as the unscrupulous television executive behind Elisabeth Sparkle’s aerobics show. The film has garnered attention recently after being submitted for consideration in the comedy and musical category at the Golden Globe Awards.
