Jimmy Carr has been candid about his cosmetic procedures over the years, revealing how his appearance has evolved since he first gained fame in the early 2000s. The 52-year-old comedian, known for his sharp wit and self-deprecating humor, has embraced various “tweakments” in his quest to maintain a youthful appearance. From hair transplants to Botox, Carr has been open about his efforts to stay looking good, often making light of his procedures in his stand-up routines.
In a 2021 interview, Carr spoke about experiencing a “midlife crisis” and his decision to undergo several cosmetic enhancements. He shared that his dissatisfaction with his real-life appearance, compared to how he looked on television, prompted him to take action.
“I got my teeth done; that’s the first thing I had done,” he explained. “I got every tooth in my head done in one sitting. I did 12 hours in the chair the first day, then 12 hours the second. It was a pretty intense process.”
Carr described the experience as both exhausting and surreal, recalling how the dental procedure involved sedatives like Rohypnol, which put him in a “dream-like haze.”
In addition to his dental work, Carr has also undergone a hair transplant and utilizes Botox regularly. Despite the heavy use of these treatments, the comedian has made it clear that his primary goal is to maintain his appearance rather than drastically change it.
“I don’t think there’s anything you can do with plastic surgery or augmentation that will make you look better,” he said. “You can just hope to stay the same.”
Carr’s openness about his cosmetic journey has extended beyond interviews, with the comedian incorporating jokes about his treatments into his stand-up material. In 2022, he humorously discussed how his use of Botox helps him maintain a youthful look, especially as a parent. He quipped that the procedure ensures his son won’t realize he’s older than the other dads, explaining, “I’ll never seem shocked or surprised, disappointed or sad, primarily because Botox has robbed me of the ability to move my forehead.”
The comedian also joked about his hair transplant, revealing that, during his research, he had considered an unconventional option: using pubic hair for the transplant. Carr’s humor often accompanies his discussions about the procedure, which he underwent post-lockdown at a clinic run by a plastic surgeon. He admitted that he had always had a prominent widow’s peak and wanted to address the issue, stating, “I had the same hairline since I was 17; I looked like a vampire’s accountant.”
Carr’s efforts to maintain his appearance go beyond cosmetic treatments. He has been committed to fitness, taking protein supplements, and following a health regimen. However, despite his extensive list of treatments, there is one procedure that his surgeon has refused to perform: buccal fat reduction.
In March, during an appearance on the Happy Hallow Jeans Podcast, Carr revealed that he had inquired about the procedure, which involves removing fat from the cheeks to create a more chiseled, model-like look. “I’ve always had chubby little cheeks,” Carr admitted. “It doesn’t matter how much weight I lose, I could be 50kg and I would still have chubby cheeks.”
However, his surgeon advised against the procedure, warning that patients who undergo buccal fat reduction often experience unfavorable results in their 50s.
Despite this, Carr seems content with his current appearance and has expressed satisfaction with his decision to undergo surgery in order to align his real-life look with his televised persona. Reflecting on his transformation, he said in 2021, “It’s the illusion of being on TV – you see yourself in full makeup, looking your best, and lit well, then you look in the mirror and go, ‘Oof, that’s disappointing.’”
These days, Carr appears more confident in his appearance, embracing both his natural and enhanced features. While his journey through cosmetic procedures has been extensive, it’s clear that the comedian values both the humor and the comfort that come with maintaining a look that aligns with his public image.
