The King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid launched the Noor Saudi Volunteer Project in Sri Lanka’s Southern Province on Monday, November 4, to combat blindness and related diseases. The project, running at the government hospital in Walsamulla, is scheduled to continue through November 9, providing essential eye care services to thousands.
According to the Saudi Embassy in Sri Lanka, the initiative includes performing surgeries for numerous patients and supplying critical medical services, including the distribution of medications, eyeglasses, and lenses. Additionally, the project aims to improve health awareness among patients to support long-term eye health.
On Tuesday, November 5, over 4,500 medical examinations were conducted, along with the distribution of 600 pairs of eyeglasses and completion of 115 eye surgeries. The project previously served the Kattankudy area in the Eastern Province in May, with similar goals to alleviate suffering through essential eye care.
The Noor Saudi Volunteer Project reflects the strong diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka and underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to providing relief to communities in need worldwide. The initiative is part of broader efforts by the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid, which has organized numerous humanitarian projects in various countries, including Sri Lanka.
