Television host Wendy Williams has long been open about her cosmetic procedures, despite facing harsh criticism over the years. Known for her outspoken style, Williams has commented on celebrities’ surgeries while readily admitting to her own. In her view, even her strongest critics would choose similar procedures if they were in her position.
Williams’ Views on Plastic Surgery Among Women
Over the years, Williams has received backlash from followers who disapprove of her embracing plastic surgery, particularly those who believe she should have remained “natural.” Williams has suggested that much of this criticism, especially from Black women, reflects societal pressures and deeper cultural issues.
“They are jealous,” she said in an interview. “If I said to that person, ‘I got the doctor, and I’m going to pay for it. Choose three things you want to do,’ believe me, they would get it done. They are very jealous and scared. Scared of what their other friends would say, or to break out of the box and be different. And being Black? Ugh, please. My people will not go for any kind of surgery. We are supposed to be natural. Ugh, whatever.”
Williams further addressed these topics in an interview, asserting that criticism of plastic surgery often stems from societal expectations, financial limitations, or cultural pressures. She echoed sentiments shared by late comedian Joan Rivers, remarking, “If I gave you $10,000 and said you can use my doctor, you’d do it. And if you say you wouldn’t, I venture to say, ‘Somebody’s lying, and it ain’t me.’”
Williams believes that plastic surgery is just one of several “taboo” topics within the Black community. “I think there are a lot of things that, unfortunately, in the Black community, we’re taught to be ashamed of, like plastic surgery, or getting help for alcoholism, or sending our addicts to rehab. Or wearing blond hair. Don’t fault me for wearing a 20-inch blond wig — it doesn’t mean I want to be a white person. And I feel that we need to get up off some of our old ways and keep in step with the times, while still being people with morals,” she stated.
Suspended Over Plastic Surgery Comments
Before her days on The Wendy Williams Show, Williams worked as a popular radio host known for her candidness. During this time, she shared details about her plastic surgery journey with listeners, offering advice to those considering similar procedures. She advised people to consult with at least three doctors and emphasized the importance of paying for one’s own surgeries, adding, “Do you really want some future ex-boyfriend out here talking about how he bought your breasts?”
Her honesty, however, led to conflict with her radio bosses. Williams recalled an incident where she was suspended after discussing her surgeries on air. “You’re off the air next week,” her boss informed her, insisting she avoid the topic. Williams reportedly attempted to reason, pointing out that many stars undergo procedures, but her boss remained firm in his decision.
Williams’ stance on plastic surgery remains one of her many polarizing views, yet she continues to advocate for openness and breaking down societal taboos, particularly within the Black community.
