TLC’s 1000-Lb Best Friends has captured the weight loss journeys of its stars, with Vannessa Cross’s transformation becoming one of the most compelling stories of Season 3. After shedding an impressive 250 pounds, Vannessa has faced both personal triumphs and challenges, with her excess skin removal surgery becoming a major milestone in her path to self-empowerment.
In Season 3, Episode 5, viewers witnessed Vannessa’s long-awaited approval for the surgery to remove the excess skin she had nicknamed “Betsy May.” While the show hasn’t yet revealed the post-surgery results, Vannessa has shared her emotional journey and newfound sense of confidence in recent interviews.
Vannessa recounted the frustration of being turned down by multiple surgeons before finally finding one who accepted her. “I got turned down by a couple of plastic surgeons, which blew my mind because it wasn’t nothing but a bunch of hanging skin,” she explained. “But finally, I found a doctor that accepted me, and I had my plastic surgery… I had Betsy May chopped off, honey! She’s gone!”
The emotional toll of her weight loss journey was significant. Although Vannessa had worked hard to shed the pounds, the excess skin made it difficult to feel fully accomplished. “All I wanted was to be normal,” she said. “When I lost all my weight but still had that hanging skin, going to the gym, every time I ran, you heard the fat roll slapping. People would look. You’re wearing a tank top and you got your bat wings hanging down.”
The surgery has proven to be a game-changer. Vannessa is now able to go to the gym, run, and live life without the physical discomfort that once held her back. “Now I get to go to the gym and run and have no issues whatsoever. That is amazing. I actually live life now.”
While Vannessa’s current focus is on healing and adjusting to her new body, she’s not stopping there. The recovery process, which she describes as “easy and painless,” has sparked an interest in further cosmetic procedures. “I want my Brazilian butt lift,” she revealed. “You know, white girl, no butt ever in my life. Mommy and daddy didn’t have [a] butt, so I’m going to need my plastic surgeon to give me one of them pretty little round booties.”
With a new chapter in her transformation story, Vannessa is embracing life with a renewed sense of confidence—and it seems she’s just getting started.
