Laura Fox, the popular radio presenter, has spoken candidly about her ongoing battle with cystic acne, which she says has significantly impacted her self-confidence and sense of identity. The 34-year-old shared her personal journey of dealing with severe acne, which began at the age of 28, and has been a challenge she continues to manage.
In an interview, Fox described the emotional toll her skin issues have taken, particularly the painful cyst-like boils that would appear on her face, stretching from her cheekbones to her chin. “The impact it had on my confidence was just next level,” she said, highlighting the deep psychological effects of her condition.
After years of struggling with acne, Fox sought help from dermatologists, acknowledging the physical pain caused by cystic acne. “It was the sorest thing ever,” she recalled. However, as she worked to manage the acne on her face, another problem emerged: severe breakouts on her back, a condition she has dealt with since her teenage years.
Recalling the emotional distress caused by her back acne, Fox shared, “I’d go on holidays, have a great time, then come in from the pool and see my back. I would just burst out crying.” The breakouts were so intense they caused significant discomfort, even under clothing.
This year, Fox began a course of Oratane, a medication that has helped improve her skin, though she noted the drug’s side effects, such as dryness. “My arms and the top of my back go incredibly dry,” she explained, stressing the importance of selecting skincare products that won’t irritate her skin.
Despite the challenges, Fox has found a sense of peace as she approaches her 34th birthday. “I’ve really grown into myself. I don’t rely on other people’s opinions of me anymore,” she said, reflecting on how her perception of beauty and self-worth has evolved over time.
Looking ahead, Fox remains optimistic, focusing not just on preparing for her upcoming wedding in two years but also on maintaining long-term skin health as part of her broader wellness goals. “I can only control what I think,” she added, emphasizing her commitment to self-care and confidence.
