Debut Biotechnology, a leader in biotech-driven skin care solutions, has entered a new phase of growth with its recent collaboration with Formula Fig, a technology-driven skin care brand. This partnership, announced in a press release, aims to integrate Debut’s cutting-edge biotech formulations into professional beauty services, including skin care studios, facial bars, and med-spas. The goal is to enhance the performance of treatments with scientifically-backed products designed for optimal skin health.
Joshua Britton, PhD, Founder and CEO of Debut, explained that the company has invested heavily in sourcing exclusive, high-performing biotech ingredients over the past six years. “It was the next logical step for us to enter the professional services market,” said Britton. Through the launch of BiotechXBeautyLabs, Debut seeks to drive innovation within the skin care sector by applying a scientific approach to address aging and longevity in skin biology.
The partnership is focused on creating clinically-backed products to support Formula Fig’s minimally invasive treatments. Britton noted that advancements in skin biology and technology enable the company to produce solutions with “true credibility” that align with the professional beauty industry. Jessica Walsh, Founder and CEO of Formula Fig, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the collaboration’s potential to expand their offerings with scientifically-backed products designed for efficacy.
“The products developed through this collaboration are designed to extend the benefits of in-clinic treatments,” Britton explained. “For Formula Fig, this means their clients will be able to maintain treatment results at home.”
The global professional beauty services market, has valued at $247.24 billion, is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.0% through 2030, according to Grand View Research. Britton emphasized the growing demand for higher-performing formulations in the sector, with biotechnology playing a key role in meeting these needs. “Biotech is the easy answer for industry professionals seeking better results for their clients,” he said.
One key advantage of biotech is its ability to produce potent formulations at lower ingredient concentrations, which minimizes the risk of skin irritation. Britton noted that biotech ingredients, typically used at concentrations lower than 0.5%, are effective without the potential for skin sensitization, compared to higher concentrations used in traditional skin care products like vitamin C.
AI and machine learning also play an important role in Debut’s research and development processes. These technologies help identify new pathways activated by trace ingredients, guiding the creation of novel formulations. “We can predict how molecules interact with skin, which helps us design innovative products,” Britton added.
Looking ahead, this partnership marks just the beginning of a broader strategy to democratize access to biotechnology in the professional beauty sector. “We launched BiotechXBeautyLabs to level the playing field, enabling beauty brands to develop high-performance formulations without the heavy upfront investment in biotech research and development,” Britton explained. The collaboration with Formula Fig is expected to be the first of many, with additional beauty brands expressing interest in working with BiotechXBeautyLabs to create superior products.
As biotechnology continues to shape the future of beauty, Britton anticipates a shift away from superficial trends like greenwashing and clean-washing, towards products that deliver true performance through innovative biotech ingredients. “Consumers will finally be getting the beauty products they deserve,” Britton said.
Formula Fig’s upcoming launch of a new skin care line next year will further solidify the brand’s mission to blend beauty with medical aesthetics. “This collaboration is a key step in expanding our offerings,” Walsh said, “allowing us to provide clients with cutting-edge products rooted in science and efficacy.”
