In an exclusive interview, French actress Sandrine Kiberlain, renowned for her natural beauty, opened up about her thoughts on aging and the potential of undergoing cosmetic surgery. The conversation, featured in the December 5th issue of ELLE, coincides with the upcoming release of Sarah Bernhardt, La Divine, a film in which Kiberlain portrays the iconic French actress Sarah Bernhardt.
While Bernhardt was known for her own experiences with plastic surgery, having undergone the procedure twice, Kiberlain has never pursued it herself. The 56-year-old actress, who has maintained her distinctive appearance over the years, expressed a healthy skepticism toward the practice. “I haven’t done it because it scares me a lot. Disease and surgery are very frightening to me. The less I visit hospitals, the better I feel. It’s kind of a phobia,” she admitted.
However, Kiberlain did not completely rule out the possibility of cosmetic surgery in the future. Reflecting on her potential feelings as she ages, she said, “Maybe one day I’ll see myself on a big screen and think my face has changed. Could someone help me? It wouldn’t be about staying young at all costs, but about feeling presentable without it being uncomfortable for me.” Kiberlain, who is also a mother, emphasized her desire to approach cosmetic enhancements with a sense of practicality and balance.
In her efforts to maintain her beauty naturally, Kiberlain relies on the high-end skincare brand La Mer, particularly its famed Moisturizing Cream. She noted her admiration for the brand’s commitment to nature, especially the “Miracle Broth” anti-aging ferment, which incorporates algae that undergoes respectful harvesting and transformation using light and sound waves. “I particularly appreciate that the story of La Mer, and the Miracle Broth in particular, speaks to the respect for nature,” Kiberlain remarked.
As Kiberlain continues to embrace aging with grace, she remains open to the evolving possibilities of beauty—highlighting her desire to feel comfortable and authentic, both on screen and in her personal life.
