Sutton Stracke is setting the record straight following backlash over comments she made about Dorit Kemsley’s plastic surgery.
In an exclusive interview, December 10, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star explained that her remarks were made in a lighthearted context during a game on MTV. “When I said that I was playing a game on MTV,” Stracke, 53, said. “So it was just supposed to be funny and stupid.”
Stracke, who has long been part of the RHOBH ensemble, emphasized that she had no intention of being hurtful toward Kemsley. “There’s no doubt Dorit is gorgeous,” she added. “I didn’t mean to be hurtful.”
The controversy stemmed from an October appearance where Stracke and Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Lisa Barlow participated in a game on MTV UK. The game required the two to guess the identity of a celebrity based on a series of clues. One of the celebrities turned out to be Kemsley, 48, and Stracke took the opportunity to take a jab at her co-star.
While Barlow complimented Kemsley’s appearance, calling her “pretty,” Stracke responded with a cutting remark: “Well, when you’ve had enough surgery, anybody can be pretty.” The comment quickly made headlines and sparked online debate.
Kemsley, who has been open about her past procedures, responded to the remarks during a November interview, questioning why Stracke had not undergone any procedures herself. “Why hasn’t Sutton done [plastic surgery] then?” Kemsley asked. “She has the money, right? She can afford it… so why hasn’t she done it if it’s that easy?”
Kemsley also addressed speculation about her own surgeries, clarifying that the only procedure she’s had was breast augmentation. “I stand here today … hand on my heart, promise you, I would happily, happily tell you if I did anything other than my boobs,” Kemsley stated.
Fellow RHOBH star Kyle Richards weighed in on the situation in November, expressing disapproval of personal attacks on appearance or financial status. “I do not like when anybody talks about people’s looks or their financial situations. It’s ugly,” Richards said. “I don’t do ugly.”
Despite the tension, Stracke expressed hope for reconciliation with Kemsley. “Dorit and I always have a hard time apologizing and accepting apologies,” Stracke admitted. “It takes us a minute or a year or two.”
