A former Playboy model, Tabby Brown, tragically passed away just days after returning to the UK following a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure in the Dominican Republic, an inquest has revealed.
Brown, 38, traveled to the Caribbean in October 2023 for the surgery, which involved liposuction and fat injection to enhance her buttocks. However, after returning to the UK, she collapsed and was found unresponsive by her mother, Mahasin, at their South London home on October 13.
The inquest confirmed that Brown died from a fat embolism, a rare but known complication associated with the BBL surgery. Medical expert Oliver Harley, a cosmetic surgeon, explained that the procedure, which involves liposuction to harvest fat from the torso before injecting it into the buttocks, can result in fat embolisms that may prove fatal.
Brown’s mother, who had cared for her daughter during her recovery, initially believed Tabby had contracted a viral infection during her travels. The model had not disclosed the surgery to her family, telling her mother only that she was going on a two-week trip to South America. Mahasin had assisted Brown with pain management, not realizing the severity of her condition, until she discovered her daughter unresponsive.
The court heard that Brown had two puncture wounds in her pelvis, confirming that she had undergone the procedure. Coroner Julian Morris recorded a narrative verdict, stating that the cause of death was a fat embolism triggered by liposuction.
Tabby Brown, who had a successful modeling career, was well-known for her appearances in various music videos and ad campaigns for prominent brands. Her family paid tribute, describing her as a “charismatic” individual whose beauty matched her vibrant personality.
Her death adds to a troubling trend of fatal complications linked to cosmetic surgeries, including other recent fatalities involving British women who underwent similar procedures.
Brown had previously been romantically linked to footballers Raheem Sterling and Mario Balotelli, with whom she had high-profile relationships. Her family expressed sorrow over her premature death, stating they will forever cherish her memory.
