Stacey Rusch, a fan favorite from The Real Housewives of Potomac Season 9, has shared a deeply personal story with fans, revealing her decision to undergo breast reduction surgery. The Detroit native, known for her impressive fashion sense and captivating backstory, spoke candidly about her journey to reclaim her body during an exclusive interview on December 13.
A New Chapter: Embracing Natural Beauty
In her conversation, Stacey explained that while many women opt for breast augmentation, she chose to reduce the size of her breasts to feel more “natural” and aligned with her true self. “I wanted to look more like me,” she said. “I’m excited with this new body. I’m excited to look in the mirror and see Stacey again. It really is wonderful.”
The Path to Breast Augmentation
Stacey’s journey with body image began in her early twenties when she started modeling. As a young model, she was often told she needed fuller breasts to fit the idealized “perfect model body.” This led her to undergo breast augmentation surgery, which she initially embraced. “I was happy. I loved my body. I worked,” Stacey recalled.
However, everything changed when she became a mother to her daughter, Arabella, with her ex-husband, Thiemo Rusch. “Motherhood changes everything,” Stacey reflected. “Your relationship with yourself, your relationship with the world, your relationship with your body.” Through pregnancy and breastfeeding, she gained a newfound appreciation for her body, which allowed her to honor her natural form.
A Personal Decision to Return to Herself
The decision to pursue breast reduction came after a difficult period in Stacey’s life. In her attempt to have another child through multiple rounds of IVF, she experienced several losses, which prompted her to reassess how she felt about her appearance. “It took some years for me to finally admit that physically I really just wanted to get back to me,” Stacey shared. “I wanted to have a body and breasts that were for me; not for work, not for my child, not for a look. I wanted to look like me again.”
The Supportive Medical Journey
Stacey spoke highly of the medical team at Austin-Weston in Northern Virginia, who supported her through the process. “I was extremely nervous about having another surgery,” she admitted. “But Dr. Robert Sigal and his team were incredible. Their passion for their work and their clients really made me feel confident and cared for.”
She recounted a particularly emotional moment when the medical staff held her hand and prayed with her before the surgery and continued to offer support as she woke up. “I’ve never experienced that kind of care. I was so happy with this decision,” she said.
A New Look and a New Confidence
While Stacey acknowledged that her larger breasts “had a great run,” she is thrilled with her new, more appropriately sized implants that better match her body frame. She noted that her recovery was swift, thanks to the support of her family. “My entire family has pitched in to keep me comfortable and distracted. I’m feeling great.”
For Stacey, the decision to undergo breast reduction was primarily about aesthetics, rather than discomfort, a perspective she finds refreshing. “Bigger is not always better,” she remarked. “You should have the body that you love and the body that matches who you are on the inside. And I finally feel like I have that body.”
Fans of The Real Housewives of Potomac can catch up with Stacey and the rest of the cast Sundays at 8/7c on Bravo, with episodes available the following day on Peacock.
