Moorfields Eye Charity has announced the appointment of Louise Robertshaw as a new trustee, where she will take on the role of chairing the charity’s fundraising and communications committee.
Robertshaw brings a wealth of experience in the charity sector, currently serving as the group director of engagement at Sense, a charity that supports children who are deafblind or have complex disabilities. She has also held trustee positions with national charities, notably the Thomas Pocklington Trust, and brings a background in leadership roles at various organizations. Previously, Robertshaw was director of fundraising and marketing at London’s Air Ambulance Charity, and head of marketing and communications at The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.
Her appointment comes at a pivotal time for Moorfields Eye Charity, as the organization prepares for the opening of a new centre for advancing eye health in 2027. Louise Wood, chair of Moorfields Eye Charity, expressed enthusiasm about Robertshaw joining the board, emphasizing her extensive experience in fundraising, communications, and engagement. “Her expertise will be critical to the delivery of our ambitious plans to benefit people with sight loss both in the UK and internationally,” Wood stated.
Commenting on her new role, Robertshaw expressed her excitement about the charity’s mission and its focus on supporting people with sight loss through innovation and research. “I was impressed by the ambitions of the team to support many more people with sight loss, and I am looking forward to working with them on this mission,” she said.
In addition to her work with Moorfields Eye Charity, the charity is also involved in the creation of a new health centre in collaboration with Moorfields Eye Hospital and the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology.
Robert Dufton, chief executive of Moorfields Eye Charity, highlighted the charity’s successful efforts to diversify its trustee board, a goal that was set three years ago. As of December 2024, more than half of the trustees are women, a quarter come from diverse ethnic backgrounds, and another quarter have personal or close family experience of sight loss. “We have exceeded the targets we set ourselves,” Dufton said.
