Kathie Lee Gifford, at 71, is embracing a natural approach to aging, moving away from the plastic surgery procedures she once considered a career necessity. The TV personality, known for her long tenure on Today, has become more accepting of the passage of time and is now focused on living authentically, both physically and spiritually.
A source close to Gifford shared exclusively, “For years, she felt pressure to maintain a youthful appearance due to the demands of her career. But now, she is content with who she is and doesn’t feel the need to follow the plastic-looking trends she sees around her, particularly in places like Nashville and New York. She doesn’t want to look like everyone else or become unrecognizable.” The insider went on to highlight Gifford’s evolving priorities, noting, “She’s focused on staying young at heart through her music and writing, not through superficial changes. After her hip replacement surgery, she’s just happy to be mobile again.”
The transition to accepting her aging process is especially significant after her split from Richard Spitz, a relationship that had a profound emotional impact on her. Gifford has been single for months and, at this stage in her life, is focused on her own happiness and well-being. “She’s proud of her wrinkles,” the source concluded, emphasizing her newfound contentment with her natural self.
Gifford moved to Nashville after leaving the Today show in 2019, where she met Spitz. The couple kept their relationship private until 2021, when Gifford confirmed it publicly. However, the romance ended earlier this year. Reflecting on her personal growth since, Gifford told in April 2024, “My joy is non-negotiable. I can negotiate time and money, but not my happiness.”
Her journey has also included significant health challenges. In the months following her breakup, Gifford underwent hip replacement surgery, describing the experience as one of the most painful of her life. “My hips were down to the nubs,” she explained in a July 2024 interview. Despite the pain, Gifford demonstrated resilience, pushing herself to recover quickly. “I was off my walker in two days, off all my medications in three days,” she said, though she acknowledged overdoing it in her recovery.
Gifford’s health scare has brought her newfound perspective. “I’ve learned that you can only do so much, and it’s okay to be human,” she shared. Grateful for the support of her family, including visits from her grandchildren, she continues to focus on living a fulfilling life without the need to conform to external expectations.
