As country music superstar Carrie Underwood prepares to host Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest in Times Square, the 41-year-old singer is once again finding herself in the spotlight — this time, over her appearance.
Underwood, who boasts 13.2 million Instagram followers, recently shared a video announcing her live performance just before midnight on New Year’s Eve. While many of her fans eagerly anticipate the event, a number of social media users have begun speculating about her looks, with some even accusing her of undergoing plastic surgery.
In a recent Instagram post, Underwood reminisced about her past appearances on Rockin’ Eve in 2007 and 2015, captioning the carousel of photos: “Looking back on some @RockinEve memories from 2015 and 2007 before I bring in 2025 with a live performance right before midnight in Times Square – tune in New Year’s Eve at 8/7c on @ABC!” However, the post sparked backlash from a few users who questioned her appearance.
One critic remarked, “Quit the plastic surgery already. Sold soul,” while another commenter wrote, “How much surgery has she had since then?” A third user simply stated, “Way too much.”
Despite the negativity, Underwood’s fans rallied to her defense. One fan responded, “What does that have to do with any of this, why even mention that? Why a rude and unnecessary thing to say?” Another fan, part of the online group “Carrie’s Care Bears,” chimed in with, “She looks amazing! Some people are just naturally beautiful.”
This is not the first time Underwood has faced speculation about cosmetic procedures. In December 2023, after sharing a selfie, some followers once again commented on her appearance, with many attributing any perceived changes to makeup. One user wrote, “Carrie is beautiful all natural; she doesn’t need all that makeup on her. She is absolutely beautiful inside and out with an amazing voice.” Others, however, continued to question her appearance, with one commenter noting, “I’m not a hater. I know she had surgery when she fell, but what is going on? You are already pretty, most women would like you others just age gracefully.”
Underwood has previously addressed concerns about her appearance, especially following a 2017 accident at her Nashville home, which left her with a broken wrist and 40 stitches in her face. In 2018, the singer openly discussed the impact of the accident and the resulting cosmetic changes.
“I feel like I do [look different] a little bit. My biggest worry at the time was like, if I say nothing then later on… I feel like people are gonna say, ‘What has she done to herself electively?’ And it definitely was not a choice,” she told Ellen DeGeneres. “I feel close to myself. I feel pretty close to normal.”
During her recovery, Underwood took months off from the public eye, giving fans a glimpse into her resilience and commitment to healing. Her candid admission about her past surgery reflected her desire to clear up any misconceptions and address rumors head-on.
As she readies herself to take the stage this New Year’s Eve, Underwood continues to focus on her performance, with fans and critics alike watching closely.
