Iran has officially reduced the minimum age for cosmetic surgery, allowing girls to undergo procedures as early as 14 and boys at 16. This decision was confirmed by Ibrahim Rezmpa, a member of the Iranian Rhinology Association, in an interview.
Previously, the minimum age for cosmetic surgeries was set at 18. According to Rezmpa, the new age thresholds are now considered scientifically appropriate, with growth, physical and psychological development, and emotional maturity playing a significant role in determining an individual’s eligibility for surgery.
While Rezmpa acknowledged the rising demand for cosmetic procedures in Iran, he refrained from disclosing specific statistics on the number of surgeries performed. Experts point to several factors driving this increase, including peer pressure, media influence, and shifting cultural norms in the country.
