Kailyn Lowry, known for her role on Teen Mom 2, has opened up about her ongoing battle with body dysmorphia and mental health challenges following her recent decision to undergo plastic surgery. In a deeply personal Instagram Reel posted on January 6, the 32-year-old shared her emotional journey and reflections on the pressures that led to her surgery.
“I had a very, very emotional morning,” Lowry confessed, explaining that she was particularly affected while taking a shower. “I pray that my kids never struggle with their body image to the point of feeling the need to mutilate their bodies to be skinny,” she added. While acknowledging that minor cosmetic surgeries like nose jobs or breast augmentations are often acceptable, Lowry stressed the dangers of pursuing drastic changes in the name of vanity, labeling it a “mental illness” that she described with deep respect for those who may be experiencing it.
Last month, Lowry revealed that she had undergone breast reduction surgery. In her latest Instagram video, she explained that it was the first time since the procedure that she had felt well enough to apply makeup on her own. She also shared the joy of being able to shower independently, a milestone she had been unable to reach immediately post-surgery. Despite her physical recovery, Lowry admitted that mentally, she was struggling with the aftermath of her decision.
“I’m struggling this time around,” she reflected. “I don’t know if it’s because I have a daughter now, but not just her—my sons, too—I don’t want them to experience this level of body dysmorphia.” She continued, revealing the extent of her obsession with weight loss during the process. “I was basically willing to do anything to be skinny, even if that meant not having Elijah with me, even if that meant being in another state for Christmas. I was willing to go to any length for it.”
The Teen Mom alum also shared that during her breast reduction surgery, she had contemplated additional procedures. “I was going for a breast reduction, and then I thought, ‘I should just add some lipo 360, a tummy tuck,’” she admitted. “I realized I shouldn’t have put Elijah through all of this. He couldn’t be there for me the whole time.” Lowry expressed remorse over the decision to undergo surgery during the holidays, explaining how it affected her relationship and her emotional well-being.
Though physically recovering, Lowry admitted she was struggling mentally, but she was determined to face the challenges with strength. “I’m going to stop crying and suck it up for the rest of the day,” she said, before offering a cautionary message to her followers: “Think once, think twice before you get plastic surgery. I hope everyone has a happy new year.”
In the comments section, fans rallied around the reality star, offering words of encouragement. One follower wrote, “You’ve always looked great! At any size, you’re just a gorgeous woman,” while another commented, “You birthed literally seven beautiful tiny humans, your body is incredible. I’m sorry you felt pressured to fix it. I hope you can learn to love your body. I know your children did.”
Lowry, a mother of seven, shares her children with multiple partners. She has a son, Isaac, from her relationship with Jo Rivera; a son, Lincoln, with Javi Marroquin; and sons Lux and Creed with Chris Lopez. She also shares two-year-old Rio and twins Verse and Valley, born in January, with her fiancé Elijah Scott.
